porano

As more restauranteurs expand into the county the challenge is creating a space that feels on-brand, unique, and original.  Porano Pasta aims to provide a sense of 'place' within a sea of chain stores and restaurants.

Recalling the Restaurant's original location in the heart of downtown St Louis, the new design celebrates custom, hand-crafted, steel and wood fabrication pieces throughout. Dividing walls, benching, shelving, and booth seating, made from common 2x6s, cedar fencing, and inexpensive whiteboard shelving, combined with custom-fabricated steel components unite the dining space, creating a brand-language, providing warmth and texture, and visually relate the 'from scratch' ethos from the kitchen concept to the guests.

Utilizing the only natural light the space has to offer along the storefront facade, the ceiling is peeled back to allow sunlight deeper into the floorplate. To better control sound, while providing additional visual interest, acoustical wood-slat panels are hung from the existing ACT grid. In fact, careful planning actually allowed nearly all pre-existing MEP/Sprinkler components to remain untouched, saving time and money.

Partnering with local branding agency, Atomic Dust, environmental graphics bring the walls to life and provide cues for egress.  Built-ins, benching, screening, and shelving were all designed and fabricated by mademan. In sum, the space delivers an authentically considered approach to design, a unique and welcomed experience in the county.
