Clayton Family Smiles is a dental office in the heart of downtown Clayton that has been treating patients since the 80’s. Now owned by sisters, Dr Keller and Dr Young, the office was due for an update. Wanting to establish a more contemporary feel, the design of the new space takes a clean and open approach, capitalizing on natural light and the 4th floor view.

Considering patient experience, we focused on the aspects of the space that would be the most engaging. In a dental office, those components were determined to be the reception, corridor, and operatory ceilings. Intending to create a calming, tranquil space that would actually help patients to relax, the floorplan is configured to ensure natural light and views to the exterior are predominant throughout the suite. Utilizing a neutral color scheme and limited material pallete that includes natural wood, the finishes are meant to balance the need for a clean and sterile medical office with a more warm and inviting spa experience. Paying special attention to the ceilings and lighting within the operatories, knowing that’s primarily what the patient sees during their visit, the smooth-faced ACT and carefully located troffer lights are set into a tegular grid to offer just a bit of architectural interest while balancing acoustics, cleanability, and cost. Working closely with the specialty dental equipment supplier, Henry Schein Dental, the overall space feels cohesive, functional, clean, and comfortable.
